Aspen is a beautiful wood to work with and to look at, it has rich deep colors that are really brought out during the sanding and finishing process. If your looking for high character, rustic log furniture then aspen is a great choice.
Aspen by nature is very high character. It is very common to find radical twists and turns in most aspen pieces, in fact sometimes the biggest challenge is to find a straight piece when you need one.
Aspen is a deciduous tree and its leaves turn golden color before falling in autumn. They propagate themselves by sending out runners undergrounds and then new trees pop up that are still attached to the "Mother tree" by its roots. In fact it is said that the single largest organism in the world is an aspen grove in Utah. While the individual trees may only live about 50 years the root system can survive for thousands of years and are able to survive many adverse conditions such as forest fires.
